Adding Life to Concrete – How MARKHAM provided concrete waterproofing and surface protection for key elements of the Urban Superway project.

The Objective

The South Road Superway (also known as Urban Superway) is a major arterial link built in Adelaide, starting in 2011. The project required a solution to remediate the potential for moisture-related issues in the insitu concrete elements, ensuring the long-term durability of the structure.

Our Solution

AQURON 2000 hydrogel treatment was applied to address moisture issues (and the subsequent corrosion of reinforcing steel) in the insitu elements. These treatments penetrate up to 150mm deep into the concrete, locking up all available moisture and preventing moisture-driven concrete deterioration in the concrete itself and non-moving cracking up to 0.5mm.

(Find out how the chemical reaction works here)

The system used in this project is now known as the CIVIL-TECT system, tailored to meet the specific needs of large infrastructure projects. Whether for new or old concrete, this system increases the service life of the structure and reduces long-term maintenance.

Positive Results

The hydrogel treatment provided a robust solution for preventing moisture ingress and extending the lifespan of the Urban Superway’s concrete elements.

This proactive approach to protecting the concrete has reduced future maintenance requirements, delivering long-term benefits to the asset owner.
