Adding Life to Concrete – How MARKHAM helped extend the service life of a heritage structure.
The Objective
A heritage listed office building, originally designed by architect Harry Seidler AC OBE, has been adaptively re-used for a new educational campus of Reddam House.
As part of the works, it was important to preserve the integrity of certain concrete elements in preparation for final coatings.
Our Solution
It was important that any treatment be compatible with coatings to follow. The other factor was moisture prevention (rising damp or equivalent). MARKHAM advanced penetrating hydrogel solution was selected for the substrate preparation.
Positive Results
The contractors and the project engineer expressed satisfaction with the immediate result. The concrete was deemed sealed and nothing further was required to block the moisture. The following coating was able to be applied successfully.
The key benefit in this instance was the cost savings, as originally multiple different products had been proposed, each requiring separate application. However MARKHAM’s solution replaced these with a single product and application.
