Adding Life to Concrete – How MARKHAM supplied and installed the BASE-TECT waterproofing system for the ground slab, including detailing and an admixture for the permanent-formwork wall system.

The Objective

To implement a comprehensive and effective waterproofing solution for the basement slab of the Rivello Apartments, which are situated in close proximity to the Brisbane River. This project presented unique challenges due to its location, particularly the high water table in the area. Our primary goal was to ensure long-term protection against water ingress, safeguarding the structural integrity of the building and creating a dry, habitable basement space despite the challenging environmental conditions.

Our Solution

After careful consideration of the project’s specific requirements and environmental factors, we opted for the BASE-TECT waterproofing system. This advanced solution was chosen for its exceptional versatility and its ability to seamlessly integrate with the permanent-formwork wall system, a key factor in streamlining the construction process and reducing on-site installation time.

Recognising the critical importance of waterproofing in this riverside location with its high water table, we implemented a multi-faceted approach to ensure robust, long-lasting protection.

Our comprehensive waterproofing strategy incorporated a three part solution:

• CONQOR B50 – A sustainable concrete waterproofing admixture
• CONQOR 47B – A delayed-swell waterstop gasket
• AQURON 2000 – A penetrating concrete treatment for enhanced waterproofing and durability

This combination was carefully selected to create a complete waterproofing system capable of withstanding the challenging conditions present at the site.

Positive Results

The basement remains consistently dry, with no water ingress issues reported during construction or subsequent inspections. This success highlights the effectiveness of the BASE-TECT waterproofing system in managing challenges posed by the site’s proximity to the Brisbane River and its high water table.

The project’s success extends beyond basement waterproofing. Impressed by our products’ performance in the basement, the project team chose to use CONQOR SEAL to protect exposed concrete throughout the entire building.
