Preserving the Sir Joseph McAvoy Bridge against the effects of repeated flooding

In 2013, the Sir Joseph McAvoy Bridge on the North Johnstone River near Innisfail (about 90km drive south of Cairns) had its deck slabs treated with AQURON 7000.

The bridge was originally constructed prior to 1949. This region frequently endures extreme monsoonal weather events, and the bridge has been submerged on multiple occasions. Applying hydrogel waterproofing treatment significantly enhances the concrete durability.

These days, AQURON 7000 is part of the CIVIL-TECT® concrete remediation system.
