The Sunshine Coast Regional Council chose AQURON to be used on their bridge protection projects, for environmental suitability. This was carried out in 2018.
The treatment reduces maintenance costs long-term, by sealing, waterproofing, and hardening the concrete. This increases the impermeability of the concrete matrix, halting moisture migration through the structure, preventing contamination and corrosion. The treatment also contains a corrosion inhibitor.
Typical treatments would have threatened the ecosystem and required the use of costly and time-consuming run-off containment for the waterways during treatment. Instead, the treatment used is nil-VOC (no volatile organic compounds) and potable water approved, certified for use in water supply tanks.
This project also involved carrying out pressure-washing before applying the product.
