Due to the use and age of these concrete structures, the concrete deterioration had reached a point where, without intervention, the digestor tanks would have had to have been taken out of service. The costs involved with taking such vital pieces of infrastructure out of service, demolishing them and the construction of new tanks would clearly be very high.
The objective given to MARKHAM in this situation was to extend the service life of these tanks and, in turn, save money, time and ultimately increase the sustainability of these structures.
