DCI Data Centre AKL01 – Dust and Durability Protection

Location:

Auckland

Country:

New Zealand

Project Type:

Data Centres

Project Scale:

5,001 – 10,000 m²

“Located at Westgate in north-west Auckland, AKL01 has been built to the highest physical and virtual security and compliance credentials to manage multi-national cloud, government, and defence workloads.” – DCI Data Centres

THE CHALLENGE

Data centres run on servers. The servers are surrounded by concrete.

Servers and related equipment generate substantial heat during operation. This creates mechanical and thermal stresses that can accelerate deterioration in untreated concrete.

Along with this, long-term carbonation leads to surface breakdown and the release of dust particles, which can obstruct airflow and raise internal temperatures inside server enclosures.

THE RESPONSE

In this instance, the MARKHAM team were pleased to be involved, meeting the challenge with penetrating multi-benefit concrete treatment AQURON 2000, one of the options in our INFRA-TECT® approach.

This was applied

  • To all new concrete floor slabs, applied within 24 hours of the concrete pour;
  • To the inside face of all precast panels;
  • To the underside of the ‘Speedfloor‘ system used for the roof structure.

That’s a total of 8,5202 of concrete treated.

Permanent protection from the first day of operation!

If you’re involved in the design or construction of data centres or other sensitive concrete storage structures, we’re keen to hear from you!
