Adding Life to Concrete – How MARKHAM applied hydrogel systems to the Stair Cores and Plant Deck Areas at Everton FC, Football Stadium in Liverpool, England.
OBJECTIVE
MARKHAM were tasked with providing a treatment process for the new concrete floor slabs, stairways and landings at Everton FC’s new stadium.
This was to enhance the durability and increase the lifespan of these structures and, probably most importantly, protect the concrete against the high level of footfall / pedestrian traffic that these areas will be subject to.
This Everton FC concrete case study highlights how hydrogel technology was applied to protect key stadium structures.
SOLUTION
The MARKHAM system put forward to achieve these goals was the spray application of AQURON 2000. This retro spray application provides surface densification and dust sealing with the product penetrating up to 100mm into the concrete.
This remains within the substrate for the lifespan of the concrete, providing a durable, maintenance free surface.
RESULTS
The application of AQURON 2000 to the Everton FC stadium was a very rapid and cost-effective solution for surface sealing and densification for the areas treated.
With the alternative being to apply a traditional coating / paint to these areas, the application of AQURON 2000 significantly reduced the level of surface preparation required, permitted pedestrian traffic across the treated areas within a few minutes of application and could be carried out with other contractors working within the immediate area, without any detrimental effect.
This meant that these areas were successfully treated with next to no impact on other contractors works and this in turn meant there was no negative impact on the overall construction schedule.
With this depth of penetration, the AQURON 2000 is present within the matrix of the concrete for the lifespan of the concrete, making it a maintenance free solution that won’t require any further applications.
